Pátio - Agroturismo, Cedros, Ilha do Faial, Projecto 2014-15, Construção 20015-16

 

A intervenção localiza-se na vertente Norte da Ilha do Faial, na Freguesia dos Cedros, junto a uma das vias de penetração a partir da Estrada Regional.

Trata-se de uma paisagem de caris dominantemente rural, com baixa densidade construtiva, onde os promotores deste projecto foram adquirindo progressivamente alguns prédios, onde estabeleceram a sua residência e criaram um empreendimento de passeios equestres, englobando também a criação dos animais.

É num dos prédios deste conjunto, junto à moradia dos promotores, onde existia um edifício tradicional em ruína avançada, que se quis desenvolver este projecto de Agroturismo, integrando o alojamento turístico na actividade já descrita.

Um princípio base que o projecto procurou seguir foi que o conjunto resultante, composto pelo edifício reconstruído, a moradia existente e o arranjo exterior entre ambos, conformasse um pátio central, identitário do empreendimento, consubstanciando o nome da empresa e constituindo um espaço multivalente, de partida e chegada dos passeios a cavalo, de estar exterior dos hóspedes, e de treino exposto dos animais.

Esta confluência de actividades foi ordenada pelo desenho de três zonas, em plataformas altimétricas diferenciadas. À cota da canada existente criou-se um pequeno largo de pavimento empedrado onde funciona a recepção pontual de veículos e de animais; num terraço junto à reconstrução fica o espaço de lazer exterior dos hóspedes, apoiado pela cozinha do edifício e por uma churrasqueira exterior; à cota inferior temos um picadeiro circular de 18m de diâmetro, onde se prevêem actividades de treino com os animais, podendo-se observar confortavelmente de qualquer outro ponto do pátio ou desde o interior dos edifícios.

A intervenção na ruína passou pela sua reconstrução, com ampliação em altura por forma a constituir uma unidade tipo casa de campo com 4 quartos duplos no piso superior e uma ampla zona comum no piso térreo com zona de estar e refeições com ligação directa ao pátio. O volume de ampliação concretiza-se numa construção leve, com estrutura e revestimento exterior em madeira de criptoméria, assumindo uma diferenciação que permite preservar, de algum modo, a escala da pré-existência.

Na reconstrução foram mantidas as proporções e ritmos dos vãos existentes, com algumas alterações nos posicionamentos. Na ampliação partiu-se da mesma métrica de vãos para criar uma composição global dialogante entre a base de pedra e o corpo de madeira.

Foi ainda concebido um edifício novo para alojamento do tratador dos animais. Foi posicionado a Norte do existente, no prolongamento do seu eixo de cumeeira, a uma cota de implantação inferior, ficando destacado em relação às plataformas comunicantes do pátio. Partiu-se de uma adaptação dos princípios empregues na reconstrução / ampliação do existente, com uma construção leve assente sobre um embasamento pétreo, com uma diferença de proporções que permite criar variedade mantendo diálogo e noção de conjunto com o edifício existente.

Pátio - Agrotourism, Cedros, Faial Island, Project 2014-15, Construction 20015-16

 

The intervention is located at the northern side of Faial Island, at Cedros, by on of the penetration roads leading from the main road.

This is a predominantly rural landscape, with low building density, were the promotors gradually acquired lands, were they established their home and created a company that develops touristic horse riding, taking also care for the animal farming.

In one of the properties in this aggregate, just by the home of the owners, where existed a very ruined stone building, is where we developed this Agrotourism project, inserting touristic lodging in the existing farming activity.

One basic ideia was agreed on as a principle for the project, witch was to create a patio from the ensemble of the existing owner's home, the reconstructed building and the landscaping works, a patio that would that would signal the hart of the enterprise and reinforce the brand's name, and that would work as a multi-function space englobing the departures and arrivals from the horse rides , an outside living area for guests and an exposed training area for the animals.

These several activities were organised by the design of three zones, on different level ground platforms. At the road level we created a wider stone paved space where is intended to be the front yard for horses and vehicles; there's a terrace by the rebuilt house where the guests can lay outside, benefiting from kitchen and outside barbecue facilities; at the lower level of the three there's a training ring for the horses, 18m (60ft) wide, that can be comfortably viewed from the rest of the patio and the inside of the buildings.

The work done on the ruin featured it's reconstruction and increase in height in order to establish a country house unit with 4 double bedrooms on the upper story and a spacious common area on the ground floor for living and dining, directly connected to the terrace. The new upper volume materializes through a light construction, structured and sided by regional Japonese Cedar wood, assuming a different weight, witch allows to preserve, in a way, the scale of the original building.

On the reconstruction we kept the proportion and rhythm of the existing portholes, with a few changes on the positioning. On the new upper body we drawed from the same metrics in order to achieve a hole composition with a dialogue between the stone base and the wood top.

In addition we conceived a new building for the lodging of the horses' caretaker. It is positioned North of the pre-existing building on the projection of it's axis, and at a lower level, being appart from the patio's main communicating platforms. We drew the new construction following the guidelines of the other intervention, with a light structure sitting on a stone base, but made it differently proportioned thus creating variety with a notion of assembly to the existing building.
